Pastor's Gift Plan Benefits St. Patrick Catholic School, Gainesville

Pastor's Gift Plan Benefits St. Patrick Catholic School, Gainesville

Father Roland M. Julien faithfully served the Diocese of St. Augustine for nearly sixty years before entering his heavenly home on December 26, 2024. His ministry touched countless lives across North Florida, fueled by his deep compassion, joyful faith, and unwavering commitment to helping others.

A champion of evangelization, Father Julien used every opportunity to serve - not only within the Catholic Church but throughout the broader community. "He was so good and did so much," recalled Maureen "Bunny" Sheehan-Carney, his dear friend of 53 years and caregiver for the last decade of his life. "He was always actively looking for ways to help. He was a blessing to our community and to so many people."

While serving as administrator and pastor for several parishes, Father Julien still found time to expand his ministry's reach. He launched a Catholic radio station, led St. Francis House Shelter as president, and co-founded the Action Network to improve transportation services for vulnerable residents of Gainesville. His impact was so profound that the City of Gainesville honored him with "Father Julien Way," a sign on NE 2nd Street dedicated in his name.

For 35 years, he was the beloved pastor of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Gainesville - a constant presence whose warmth and generosity drew people from all walks of life. He had a special love for children and for St. Patrick Interparish School, knowing firsthand the life-changing value of a Catholic education. "He cared for everyone," Sheehan-Carney said, "but he especially loved the children and St. Patrick School."

Determined that no child be denied a Catholic education because of financial need, Father Julien arranged for 50% of his estate to be entrusted to the Catholic Foundation for the benefit of St. Patrick students. His family named the endowment in his honor: The Father Roland Julien Catholic Student Assistance for St. Patrick Interparish School Fund.

"We are honored to steward this generous estate gift and bear witness to his thoughtful and selfless planning," said Patty DiSandro, executive director of the Catholic Foundation. "He devoted his life to serving others, and now his legacy will live on through the countless St. Patrick students this fund will benefit - forever."

Through this lasting gift, Father Julien's faith and love will continue to shape young lives for generations to come - a fitting tribute to a man who gave his heart completely to God and His people.
